I give this thread five stars because of the way it makes me challenge my beliefs.
Rogo, KNOWING the path, but NOT walking the path is like KNOWING that robbery is wrong, but still robbing...(or any other silly analogy you care to insert)
HOWEVER, there is a point at which you have to question whether the path is the right one for you to walk on, or if it's just an illusion...
When you can snatch the coin from my hand grasshopper, it will be time for you to go...

Does this mean you're leaving? Because you're not wanted here.
That being said Rogo, if you want to move to North Dakota and live off that land thats your choice. However I fail to see how recognizing the earth has a finite resource base justifies this morality. For one thing just because life is about to get worse and you blame others doesn't mean that its morally right for you to just run away from the world and give it the finger. That might be in your self interest if you are able to build a self-sustaining complex now while the getting is good, but that makes you more intelligent than others, not more moral. Further the polygamy thing is total cr@p, anyone who believes in the peaking of global resources and a subsequent destruction of civilization would consider the easiest solution to be a reduction in world population back to the earths sustainable holding capacity, breeding more children, especially at such an unstable time would seem contradictory to your motives.

I'm not?

I honestly don't trust anyone outside of my family. I've contemplated a vasectomy but after working so long on the land (and making a living journal about my grandfathers/grandmothers) I now realize that hired help just can't be trusted (besides Jack Kerouac). My motive is to become sustainable. I can't work my land without 'people' and I'd rather have my family for companionship than strangers. Both sides of my family had very large families BECAUSE they were a cheap source of labor (it really does sound sordid when you distill it down to this level). Oh-well. I was actually joking about polygamy. Three children are enough for my needs. Multiple wives would be absolute torture.

My choice is to abandon all of America's energy/agriculture/and financial structures. All three of those capital structures are untenable. I've also chosen to follow the path of polygamy. Someone needs to sow the seeds for generations that have the sustainability of our native culture as the focus of life.
Besides BD, Sampson, Browntown, and Rogodin, none of you have a chance in hell.
Godspeed
