Is there a difference between Apple Wireless and PC wireless?

I have a WBR2G54 router and I just got this ibook and I cannot get it to get through the security! I have my security set up with a TKIP WPA-PSK and for some reason when I type in my network password it just doesnt go! Do I need an apple airport thing to make wireless work with this ibook or what do I need to do?
 
I think I got it taken care of. For some reason it doesnt connect all the time but now it does most of the time. I'm not sure maybe my router is just flipping out! 😕
