Well, I was just wondering whether there's a difference between 1080p and 1080i when a tv/lcd monitor is connected to a pc.

Sorry ahead of time if this is a newb question.

Thanks,

the TV has to be able to accept 1080p. Most HDTVs only accept 1080i. Even many 1080p capable TVs only accept 1080i (and deinterlace internally to 1080p). Newer models (and I do mean new, like 2006) do accept 1080p.

If your TV does not accept 1080p, then your PC needs to output to 1080i. I think most video cards nowaday will give you that option.

Will that give you a worse quality picture then 1080p?

Meaning 1080i as opposed to 1080p
