Is there a difference between 0AF and 16AF?

Well I saw 2 pics (can't remember where) comparing I think it was star wars galaxies, one pic was with 0AF and the other was 16AF. Seriously, I could barely see a difference, and the little difference I saw wasn't "better" it was just different. I asked someone awhile ago what AF was for and he said it makes surfaces less blurry.


Can you post comparison pics of games using 0AF and 16AF? (like fear, cod2, u know 🙂 )

The screenshots in that link really don't help to persuade in favor of 16AF. The first one just doesn't show enough difference (perhaps because its been scaled down), and the second set is just too dark to really see it working.

In Oblivion 16XAF makes a huge difference. I hadn't been running any and the stones of the streets were just ugly after a short distance. Forced it in drivers and now they look great as far away as I can see.

In most games it will make a noticable difference and the performance hit isn't too bad, so its worth it. Its a lot more noticable when you're actually playing a game than in most screenshots too.

Unfortunately, a side effect of when I enabled it is that I started to see the notorious texture shimmering. It is quite noticable, however, it doesn't actually bother me for some reason.

How did you enable 16AF in Oblivion?

Can you elaborate on the texture shimmering problem? Perhaps a screenie? Thx

You can't. You have to force it through the drivers.

As for shimmering, you really need a video since shimmering occurs when you are in motion or as your view is moving.
 
The classic title Serious Sam is hands down one of the best AF testers around because of the massive flat tiled floors it uses.

Look at the floor in front of you that runs towards the wall. With 16xAF it stays sharp and defined while with 0xAF it gets blurry and loses definition very quickly.

I don't have a screenshot, but the area in HL2 where you're looking down a railroad track and avoiding sniper fire is a good place for AF too. As a general case, it seems to me that AF helps the most when you are in wide open spaces and can really see a lot of the gaming world. Also, on X1k series of ATI cards (probably nVidia 7800/7900 series too) the hit of 8xAF or 16xAF is near nothing in terms of real playability.
