Is there a Deus Ex 3 coming out anytime soon?

Deus Ex 1 was probably the best FPS that i have ever played (single player).

Never played 2, was it any good? and did the later patches fix the "issues" they were having with the FPS and redo that ugly UI i saw from the screenshots?

Is it still bad even after all the patches?

People didn't hate it because of bugs. They hated it because it made some bizarre gameplay choices such as Unified Ammo.

Ion Storm is out of business, so the odds of another game in the Deus Ex or Thief series are slim and none.

Well, I certainly wouldn't say none. Somebody still owns the intellectual property. Neither game was a monster bestseller, but the original did well enough, and the core fans are nothing to sneeze at. We can hope somebody buys the rights to the franchise and puts out something decent.

Better yet, someone comes out with another game theat blends FPS/Role playing elements as well as the original did, and can manage a decent storyline to go with it. I'm not a big fan of sequels in general.

I thought 2 wasn't awful, but nowhere as good as the original. Still my favorite action game ever.

Well, you're right that there's a chance. The Theif series was bought by Ion Storm after Looking Glass went under. But DX2 and Theif 3 weren't particularly great sellers for Ion Storm, so that leaves it unlikely that another developer would want to spend the money to aquire the rights and develop another game.

Irrational is making a System Shock like game called Bio-something IIRC. At least we have that to dream about.

Deus Ex, System Shock and Thief... the best 1st person franchises ever, IMO (I played all seven of them 2 DE, 2 SS, and 3 T games).

I'd love a Deus Ex 3 game - there's some talk in the planetdeusex forums all the time about people wishing there was a DX3, or a remake of DX1 with better graphics, AI. Maybe there will be in the future - after all, it took many years for Doom 3 to be produced after the originals were. It's good to see other people like me are still interested in the series as a whole!

It's not as long, and the story is not as strong, plus the weapon ammo is different and skill system isn't there any more. I've played through it twice now, and it's Ok, if you're a fan a DX it's certainly worth at least trying - especially as it's going for bargain bin prices now.

I got it in the UK, and that already had the 1.2 patch - playing through it twice I've had a total of three crash to desktops, but I save regularly anyway so it didn't botehr me to much - started up each time perfectly after that.

The buggest problem whe it was first released was that the PC's people had were to crap for the game - due mostly to the poor performance of geforce fx cards. My 6600GT plays it Ok at 1280x1024 without AA and the Bloom effect is not enabled. I think any current high end card would play it really well now.

After playing the Deus Ex 2 demo I never bothered buying the full game. I did give Thief 3 a chance though. I'm a bigtime fan of the Thief series and was expecting to be disappointed because it was another X-box port, but I actually thought it was pretty good. I liked having to navigate my way through town on my way to/from various missions and some of the levels were really well done (The Cradle in particular.) They left the door open nicely for another addition in the Thief series. But I'm not going to hold out hope.

Deus Ex was bad because it was crap.
What also annoyed me more than anything was the ~6 month delay between US and UK release.
Safe to say I played the game, but I didn't buy it for that reason alone.

Deus Ex 3 was being made by Ion Storm during Deus Ex 2's release, but was cancelled when Ion Storm was shut down. A shame, as the original is easily the best game ever, and the sequel was still pretty good.

It's still about twelve hours long, which isn't too much shorter since the original takes about twenty hours to beat. The skill system was nice but unnecessary, and unifed ammo only affected the player towards the end of the game when most of the enemies didn't drop any ammo. Deus Ex 2 was much more stable than the original as well.

Didn't Deus Ex 3 become Project Snowblind?

according to this, it did.

The people who edit pages at Wikipedia are idiots. Snowblind was originally going to be called Deus Ex: Clan Wars, but the name was changed (probably since Ion Storm died) and in the end it was no more than Unreal Tournament with a Deus Ex-like storyline.

20 hours?!!! The original??!!! It took me 45 hours on the first attempt - no kidding - I looked at every datacube and every snippet of information - plus went everywhere following every conversation in full. Took me around 30-35 hours on subsequent attempts. I have to say that in terms of hours played, DX1 was much more reliable and through my first run didn't crash once - it was only once I started to 'cheat' the game and look for errors that it crashed at all, and even then it was rare. DX:IW on the other would just crash for no reason at random times, and considering the hours played, was thus much more often.

Do you keep walk mode on by default, instead of run? It took me just under twenty the first time and now it takes about sixteen, if I read most of the datacubes and do all the extra little things.

The game to watch is Bioshock. It's being created by IG, who are as close as we have to the legacy developers of the franchise, as they created System Shock 2 (and yes I know it was Warren Spector at the helm, but still).

There is not a lot revealed yet, only a slight bit of concept art followed by perhaps one screen I saw a year later. IG was recently acquired by Take Two publishing, which I'm sure some of you know, which is ostensibly related to the forthcoming title.

No - I think I may have taken a very stealthy approach to it though - I'd often try to find the least path of conflict
