Sorry, but that Chilton reference just made me chuckle a little.
Honestly, if you want a book(s) that tells you how to work on your vehicle, look no further than the factory service manual. Yes, you can buy them. They're written by the guys who built the vehicle, so the details about repairing, etc., your vehicle far surpasses any Chilton or Haynes or other manual. (And you'll find the factory service manual will also have better pics and line drawings than any Chilton/Haynes and LOTS more of them.)
But the factory service manuals aren't the cheapest things around...usually 2 or 3 or even 4 volumes to cover the vehicle, with electrical and emissions usu. in separate volumes, as compared to 500 pages in a Chilton trying to cover everything.
And remember, instead of the manuals being written by those who built the vehicle, Chilton's uses the "we take it apart and figure it out...sorta" system. Not horrible, but not the best way to get the info about how the car's built and how to take care of it.
