Is there a Cooler with a 60mm fan that can come close to the Alpha 8045 in performance and noise?

Hey there, I'm going to buy a new hsf for my 1800+ Athlon XP pretty soon, this delta is driving me nuts!. I've been looking around the fourms and the Alpha Pal 8045 seems to be the way to go, but not only is it pricey, I dont like the way you have to remove your motherboard just to put it on. Is there any hsf combo out there thats quiet, cools well, but uses the motherboard clips?. How hard is it to install one of those Alpha 8045's?, did you find the installation cumbersome?. Thanks

Well, it's alot easier to install a HSF with the motherboard out anyway. But if you want a good one that uses clips try the Thermalright SK-6. You'll want to get one without the Delta fan because it's really loud.

I found it very difficult to install the 8045 for various reasons. One of the problems I had was its hard to tell how secure the heatsink is against the CPU core. However, it is more secure and I guess there is less of a chance of cracking your core.

If you want a 60mm HSF that can compare to the 8045, it gotta be in either performance or noise. With smaller heatsinks/fans, you can have one or the other. The SK-6 with a Delta offers near-8045 level cooling, but it is very loud. If you give it a quieter fan, then it loses a lot of performance. Its just the way things are.

i actually found the 8045 easy to put... easier than some clip heatsinks i've put on.

the problem with the sk6 is it needs a delta to be good... if you put a slow enough (quiet) fan on it, a pal6035 starts to work better.

Well I just installd the original HSF that came with my XP which is VERY quiet and it seems to be working quite well, or at least better than I expected. The temp of my XP stays around 38 to 40C which, IMO, is acceptable. I'm sure there are better HSF's that use quiet fans also, so I'll keep serching. Thanks guys
