I used to have a watch that doubled as a tv remote. Turning the class television on in HS at random times always provoked an amusing response from the teacher.

Guys, guys, I have the bestest watch idea evar! Take one of those video watches and load it with videos of bodacious babes announcing the current time. "Ooh baby, it's 4:27." Wiggle, wiggle.

It's a brave man who'd wear that in public (outside of the redneck states, perhaps) :p

I stopped wearing watches years ago. But I have started again. Problem is, to me, no watch in the world is worth more than $50 and it's hard to find a decent one for that price.
If someone knows of a gold watch with the date that fits that bill, LMK. Just time and date.

I much prefer my cell phone. Before I carried a cell phone, I used to use a pocket watch. Wrist watch tanlines = bleh.

Dunno if I overstated it, but part of the thing for me at least is that the watch has to look cool, especially if I'm not going to be using its functions on a daily basis. Which in the case of sports, adventurer, etc types I'm not. That is one of the main reasons for wearing a watch these days. However, as I said, that alone isn't enough reason for me to wear one.

What I'm looking for is that it has to do something useful in addition to acting as actually cool man-bling, not something that looks like a mass-market relic from the 80's. It can be quirky man-bling. It can be overt man-bling. It can even be borderline metro - I can deal with it.

That new Sony wrist-mounted Android companion device that costs $70 is called the "LiveView."

I just stumbled across this too:
http://androidandme.com/2011/10/devices/android-powered-im-watch-comes-out-of-hiding-october-25/
(Android powered watch)

I also went ahead and ordered an MBW-150 to experiment with the iOS hacks that support it.

I don't use the Jesusphone (I like actually having a phone which doesn't drop calls / shatter on demand) so the MBW is probably out for me.

I'mWatch is intriguing though, though I'm definitely not an Android fan. Still, could work well as a standalone device. Doesn't look janky either. imwatch.it is bookmarked - thanks.

$480K...

... ooooookaaaayyyy.

I think you've just found the (beyond) limit of my readily disposable income.

I think I'll pass.

But yeah, (slightly better looking, TBH) things like these are what makes me go 'Man... I should wear a watch'. But as I said, needs to do something relevant too.

Many pilot's type watches come with thick manuals of everything they can do. What kinds of stuff are you looking for.

you can still get a calculator watch, they had a watch at one time that could play touch-tones into a phone as well.

Relevant to the urbanite? If I had a definite idea I wouldn't be asking :p

I'm not a nerd in the regular sense - i.e. I use the services of stylists, tailors and personal shoppers. So I think we can rule out plastic calculator watches simply on the basis of style. I'm also not hipster enough to be able to wear crap ironically.

Sports, well not really. I don't pilot planes, climb mountains or run Ironman.

Anything which a smartphone can do better doesn't really seem relevant - so that kind of rules out stuff like GPS as well.

Which leaves...

...I dunno, and that's where you come in.

I guess given guyver's post I should put an upper price cap on it too. I'll look at anything $15K or under.

Check out http://www.smartmadsoft.com/

He writes Bluetooth wristwatch support for most smartphones. With it, Android is supported for all MBW-series watches (and more).

Just get a TAG Heuer and call it a day.

That's kind of missing the point.

If I was going to wear a regular watch, I already have similar chronographs from Breitling for one. As I said, I never wear them, and in any case I'd also gravitate more to the more interesting watch designs if I was going to actually choose one to wear these days, not the crank-em-out TAGs.

It's got to do something else useful as I keep reiterating. And I'm not talking about things that watches usually tend to do such as stopwatches, tachymeters, etc.
