I am having extreme difficulty with the abit KT7-raid motherboard and keeping my operating system from not crashing or freezing on startup or losing part of the boot sectors on my hard drives. Every time I set the raid bios and mirror or stripe my HD's my computer acts up.

I have:
Abit KT7 Raid MB
AMD T-bird 1Ghz
2 45G Maxtor 7200rpm
Maxtor ata-100 adapter card
128 MB ram
ATI radeon 32DDR
Sound Blaster Live
Plextor 12x10x3
Generic CD ROM
Floppy
Zip 100
Generic NIC

Is there anything special I must do to keep my settings and the death of my os and my computer? Is there a compatibility issue? I use the updated drivers for all devices I can get off the internet... HELP!!!

I'm no guru, but I recently set up a KT7-Raid.

Are the two hard drives set up as "master" on individual chanels of the Highpoint connectors?
You shouldnt have to set any jumpers on the hard drives, just make sure they're attached to the end connector of the cable.
Are you using ATA-66/100 cables?

I'd read over Pauls FAQ, take everything apart and start all over again with only the RAM, video card, CD-ROM and hard drives installed on the MB.
Get the OS installed and then update/install all your drivers as per Pauls list.

Hope this helps.

Do you have your nic in PCI#5? I've found that to be a problem waiting to happen. Try and leave PCI#5 empty, it shares an IRQ with your raid controller.

Rustynail,

What is that Maxtor ATA 100 controller doing...not familiar w/that piece of gear? Is that sitting in a PCI slot? Do you have the drives connected to it or the orange Highpoint EIDE/RAID connectors. The master/slave thing might be a good idea to check.

Hey, Cutter, I missed that one...

Rusty why do you have a Maxtor adapter card when the KT7 as Highpoint RAID built in?

This might be one of your problems as well.

Hook the two harddrives into the Highpoint connectors, one for each chanel.

Ditch the Maxtor card.
