is there a command that will turn off your monitor through possibly a bat file or something else.. like a hotkey?

1. Start button
2. shutdown

I think the power button procedure is more efficient though.

I use this program called HotCorners. You can use it to trigger the screensaver or turn off the monitor.

To use a hot key you need the command to make your finger hit it. A more efficient program is to eliminate the hot key and command your finger to hit the power button on the monitor instead. Next you'll want a command to flush the toilet.

windows has a utility:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\>powercfg.exe /?

POWERCFG [/LIST | /QUERY [name] | /CREATE name | /DELETE name |
/SETACTIVE name | /CHANGE name settings |
/HIBERNATE {ON|OFF} | /EXPORT name [/FILE filename] |
/IMPORT name [/FILE filename] | /GLOBALPOWERFLAG {ON|OFF} /OPTION flag |
/BATTERYALARM {LOW|CRITICAL} [settings] |
/DEVICEQUERY queryflags | /DEVICEENABLEWAKE devicename |
/DEVICEDISABLEWAKE devicename | /?]

Description:
This command line tool enables an administrator to control
the power settings on a system.
example:
POWERCFG /CHANGE scheme /monitor-timeout-dc 0

I too would be interested in such a thing. There's obviously a Command to do so, as that's how Windows would have to do it.

Re: Pushing Power Button
The reason not to do so can be numerous:
1) Potential exists in wearing out the button
2) Powering On a Monitor with the Power Button is far more strenuous on a Monitors internals(especially on a CRT)
3) My table/Desk is cluttered in all sorts of crap. I gotta move stuff just to access the button
4) Why? There's a way to do it with a click of the Mouse, just let us use that way and y'all can do it the "hard" way. :p
