Hey Morphine, this looks good but it doesn't seem to save as a high quality mp3 file without a separate encoder. Can you recommend one or am I missing something?

Ok that says something about me having to use a C compiler. I can use adaptec to quickly change from the wav to the mp3 if I can get it that far and it wil use the wav file name that this EAC supposedly does. I keep getting server errors and sometimes host unknown errors. Not sure whats going on. Is the CDDB system flaky like that or am I missing something? thanks again

You can get the LAME executable here. Download the latest beta version. See the FAQ linked in my signature for the best settings to use with LAME.

You can integrate LAME with EAC quite easily, and they are the one-two punch for getting the highest possible quality mp3's from your CD's.

edit: EAC can use CDDB to get names, etc, and automatically create ID3 tags and stuff. It's pretty simple. But to get the most out of EAC you will need to read the instructions carefully - it is easy to get some settings about your CD-ROM drive wrong, and then you will have big problems.

Any info on why CDDB wont work as I stated above it says server error.. and sometimes Unknown host crap. I'v tried different server names in the list. Is it always this flaky or something I'm doing? and thanks for the exe link.

Are you using Adaptec 4.0? Back when it was the latest version of EZCD, CDDB.org was totally free. However, now they've sold out, taking all of the user submissions that made them what they are, and charge for the service now (I forget what they're called now). But now the best free CDDB is freecddb.org. All current software uses the freecddb server, such as EAC, but I'm not sure of Adaptec EZCD 4.0.

edit- going to cddb.org presents their current website, Gracenote. And now I'm not so sure their services are fee-based. Maybe they just changed their format, thereby breaking software that used it.

I was not aware that there was more than one set (if you will) of CDDB servers. I thought it was one entity. I am useing EAC to try and connect. It is version 0.81 and it tells me to get a newer version when I start it up. but I don't see a more recent version on the site. thanks all

rhodent: have u set up the cddb options? u need to key in an email address (any dummy email address will do) into cddb options to retrieve information from cddb.

Thanks guys. I got theCDDB info no problem that time. I'm doing the rip right now. It is cruising at like 1.6 X Does that seem a little slow? I might need to tweak some settings to speed things up. I'm useing the TDK VELO CD 12 10 32 drive. thanks again

Right on, glad to help. 1.6X seems pretty dang slow, that would take about 30-40 mins to rip an entire CD. My favorite EAC tutorial is here. Is the CD in good condition? If there are scratches, smears, or fingerprints, it will cause EAC to re-read the sectors covered by the imperfection up to 80 times, causing very slow ripping speeds. You should be getting 12-20X with that drive, as indicated here.
