Is there a calibration tool that I can use so I get the best picture color in my DVD's

I've got my desktop setup properly, but whenever I watch DVD's I've always got to adjust the video overlay contrast and brightness in my display properties because the video always looks very dark and hard to see.

Instead of just taking a subjective guess about what values to pick for contrast/brightness/color, is there any software that will help me get some optimal values?

edit cause I can't spell 🙂

Anything by Colorvision.

The consumer version (called ColorPlus) only runs $120 or so.

I actually just bought one, should be getting it this week. It works by creating an ICC profile for your monitor to use, so you only really need it once.

I was thinking about posting a "For Rent" thread on the Classifieds forum. Say, $20 PayPal and you can have it for a week to create all the profiles you want on all the monitors you've got. Something like that. Dunno, was thinking about it.

I'm betting that would violate the license.

What license? The ColorVision license? Howso? It's just used to create the ICC profile - it's a standard Windows color profile. The ColorVision software doesn't need to be used at all after creating that. In fact, it's useless without the "puck" that sits over the monitor to calibrate it, as all the software does it take readings from the "puck" to build the Windows color profile.

Yeah, the Colorvision license. Having not read it, of course, I don't know, but I would imagine there's a bit in there about it only being for the use of the purchaser and not renting/etc.
Do I actually care? No, but it's something to check into before posting it in FS/FT.

I actually think thats a pretty damn good idea. Why pay $120 for a device you can really only use once? I think that would be an awesome thing and I hope it become popular!
