Is there a big difference between Seagate 7200.11 and 7200.12 drives?

Considering the number of dead .11s i've seen, not to mention the good times with firmware, i'd eschew them all.

STAY AWAY! I returned a motherboard, which was probably in perfect order, and spent hours investigating before I identified the firmware on a brand new Seagate drive as the culprit on my latest build. I think Maxtor is the same company (can somebody confirm?).

Seagate purchased Maxtor a couple of years ago. Supposedly, Maxtor's designs were abandoned. Because the name "Maxtor" had higher recognition in the home market, Seagate's marketing plan was to make Maxtor their "value line".

I'd rather eschew obfuscation.😉 And while I own a 640GB 7200.11, which I like as much as my Western Digital 6400AAKS, there have been problems with them. Besides, why buy last year's model, when it's only a few dollars cheaper? I've been dreaming about 500GB platters for quite awhile now.

I am un-happy to report my less than 3 month old 1TB 7200.12 drive has lost its partition info... And of course it is my boot drive.

Seagate is pissing me off... This was a replacement drive for a ...wait for it... Seagate 7200.10 500GB that was serving as my boot drive ...I wanted to ghost the drive before RMAing it.

Sigh, I guess I am moving to Hitachis then. I have over 8TB of Seagate drive space...

Meanwhile, my good old WD160 is still kicking strong in my Athlon 700... Along with a maxtor 320 and a Maxtor 40.
