Is there a big difference between 16 and 32 mb on a video card?

I asked this question in the "Video" forum, but no takers.

The question is particularly in regards to Geforce MX cards. A lot of 3D games (like Quake III) are not played. What would be the max resolution and color depth for a 3D game though?

I understand that if the card runs out of on-board memory, it will turn to the AGP bus to use main system memory. I've got PC133 CAS3 memory there. There will be a performance hit, but how much?

youll get a huge performance hit if you texture to ram. max res should be the same in 2d with 16mb. during the quake2 days it didnt matter, but textures are getting big, i'd say going from 32 to 64 wouldnt do much but 16 to 32 is a big difference with current games
