I am trying to convert all my old home videos to VCD's with my cd-r and nero. I am ripping the videos to mpg then burning that mpg to a VCD via nero. I am using cheap compUSA cd-r's... and my dvd reader, an apex, which supposedly reads cd-r's, cannot read it! It says there is an error....

What's your burning speed? Try lowering it to 2x or 4x and see if that will work. As for brand of CD-R, other than PNY, I haven't had any trouble with any brands, and that includes cheap compusa cdrs.

You probably can find a solution at here , if lowering your burning speed doesn't solve the problem, it might your mpg encoding method.
