Is there a benefit in upgrading my computer for Dosbox?

I'm getting back into games in "golden era" of PC gaming, and most of them run under DOS. Certain games run really badly at higher resolutions in Dosbox. I'm currently running an i3, and I've heard that (supposedly) a faster processor can help with Dosbox speeds, but multi-core does nothing... Would I really see any benefit in Dosbox by upgrading my processor?
