is there a a defragger that fits on / boots from a floppy?

Basically, i'm looking for a defrag utility that I don't have to install...that can just reside on a floppy. (or even a cd). is there any such thing?

also, are there any good full-featured freeware defraggers? (i'm hoping for something that allows scheduling)

thanks.

I have never heard of a bootable defrag util, but then again, I have never looked for one. What OS are you using, and why not just use the built-in defrag utility if its W2K or XP?

Why? Having to take the system down for defragging is more annoying than it's worth, defraggers now work fine with the system up and most should have a 'boot time defrag' to handle files they can't do while the system is up.

ok, well, see, i've got an NT4 machine at work...in other words, there's no built-in defragger. And I don't want to go installing my own personal defrag software on my work machine (don't want to get in trouble or nothin', licensing, etc). So, that's why I thought maybe I could find one that would just run off a floppy. Oh, and yeah, I know I should go through normal work channels, but I already tried that, and they don't want to bother. (apparently they don't think defragging is necessary to keep a windows machine running "optimally" (I use that term loosely))

well, i guess i just put up with it, until I get around to writing my own free open-source defragger that runs direct from floppy (any removeable media) 😉
