Is there a 32" Cinema Display?

So I went over to the IT fair at work to get some free ice cream and a free football. I walk in and there is a huge display that I'm sure is fake. As I walk up to it, I see that is indeed real.

I ask the woman if it's a 30" and she said "No, but you're the closest yet. It's 32 inches". It was very high resolution, not a TV or anything as far as I could tell.

I looked it up, and I don't see a 32". Was she wrong?

Did she actually say that it was an Apple Cinema Display?

The highest resolution I have ever seen on a computer monitor was 2560*1600, which is only found (consumer wise at least) on 30" displays. I personally have never heard of a 32" COMPUTER monitor. Sure, there are some 1080p 32" TVs, but as for something that is advertised as a computer monitor, I haven't seen any that are larger than 30".

It was Apple branded and had the definite Apple look. It had to have been 30". She didn't know how much it cost either. Maybe it was her first day.

Better question: If they did, would it still only have one, non-industry-adopted input?

Seriously Apple, you'd have my money if you just put a 2nd DVI or HDMI input on the damn Cinema Display.

Absolutely, and I completely agree with you on it. The 24" is a gorgeous monitor, that can't be used on anything but a Mac. I can't afford the thing anyway, but if I could I would want it to either have DVI, Full DisplayPort, or for someone, somewhere, to sell an adapter.

It's probably better the way it is, actually, just so I don't end up buying it. It's like $700 at the refurb store, and that's probably not anything I should be parting with since I'm taking a month and a half off to study for the bar.

I wonder what's involved in creating an adapter for the input. I was under the impression that Mini-DP was electrically compatible with HDMI since the adapter from MiniDP -> HDMI look passive.

To the best of my knowledge, DVI, DP and HDMI are all compatible with each other. Tyranicus has hooked up his new MBP to his TV over HDMI by using a MiniDP->DVI adapter and then a DVI->HDMI adapter and that works great.

More accurately it can only be used with the Mac Mini. Using it as a secondary display for a laptop is kind of pointless, and AFAIK, the Mac Pro doesn't have a mini-display port.

To the best of my knowledge, DVI, DP and HDMI are all compatible with each other.

Unfortunately not according to Wikipedia. DisplayPort's video signal isn't compatible with DVI or HDMI. However, it can pass through an HDMI signal to a display compatible with that. So the way I read it, a DisplayPort monitor can't take an HDMI/DVI signal.

Why is it pointless to use it with a laptop? When I was at school I would hook my macbook up to the 23" Cinema Displays that we had in our lab, the extra screen real estate was quite nice.

Then, when I used to have a 24" monitor at home, I would just put my laptop into closed lid mode and use it that way.

Also, the Mac Pro now ships with cards that have MiniDP on them. So, like I said, only Macs can use the new 24" LED Cinema Display.

The Mac Pro does have MiniDP, but unless you put your huge tower case on the desk, the cable won't reach.

I have the new 24 inch display. The cable reaches to where I used to keep my tower under my desk. Of course now it goes to the macbook pro next to it and it has a lot of slack. Yes it is short, and yes I wish it was replaceable, but it's not as crazy short as they make it seem.
