Guy's

I just bought a 95 eagle talon AWD turbo for $3700. It only has 53k miles on it and is in really good shape exept for light damage to the front that occured when a woman ran a stopsign and the guy i bought it from hit that lady. I need to replace the right fender, the hood the bumper and one front light. It is what i would consider light damage and the frame is for sure not tweaked. The guy i bought it from said that his girlfriend worked out something with the insurance company where it would be an advantage if they marked it as a salvaged car. This damage is for sure not enough for it to be salvaged. only took me $1000 to fix and kbb value on this is close to $9000. Is there any way to get a clean title on this car again??

Thanks

Mylle

Not that I am aware of. I believe a salvage title will always stay with the car for it's entire life.

Unless you do something to change the VIN, the car will always have that black cloud over its head.

If you plan on keeping the car and driving it into the ground until it's DEAD or giving it away for free then go ahead and buy a salvaged car. Otherwise do not buy one.

I bought a 1994 Toyota Corolla which had minor damage to the front and was "salvaged". Although the car was 100% repaired, looks great and runs smooth I will have a VERY hard time if I ever want to sell it.

Not legally. Once, in the context of prosecuting a cocaine dealer in Minnesota, I ran across an odd phenomenon: he had purchased a stolen motor home, then bought a fresh title, in his own name, from a fly-by-night titling company. Try as we might, even though we knew the entire history of the vehicle, we could not prove that he was not the true owner, because, legally, he was. I imagine such a company could generate a clear, non-salvage title on your car, but it would be legally shaky at best, and it would raise a definite red flag in a Carfax search, so you could still never trade the car in to a dealer or sell it to any buyer with all synapses firing. (Don't take this the wrong way - I do not mean it was foolish for you to buy the car, just that it is definitely queered in terms of resale.)

i bought it with the intention of driving it until it dies. I just think its stupid that a car that just needed minor repair has a salvage title on it because it was easier for the insurance company. I could not resist for $3700 and i am not planning on selling it.

You can absolutely change a salvage title to a regular title, car must be inspected at a state inspection center( usually a local dealer). This is the same process as in buying an out of state car. Check your local title bureau for inspection site near you, of course there is a fee involved. I would call to see if they can inspect before you spend any money to repair, that way you can make sure there is no structural damage that would prevent you from getting a clear title.

drive to arkansas and register and tag it then drive back and reregister it lol

they had no laws about salvaged cars up until i left about four years ago and people were doing this all the time bringing salvaged cars to them then reselling them as normal.

but seriously just enjoy the price

Exactly! Thats what the f@cking insurance companies do all the time. Its how they get some of their money back on total loss cars.

It looks like laws vary from state to state call your local title bureau. I don't know if it is removed from carfax database, I would doubt it .

Correct, with a salvage title you cannot get license plates, so you have to convert to a regular title if you want to drive it.

Why not contact the California DMV and ask them yourself to get the correct answer?

I searched their website for the word salvage and it found 41 matches.

You can get plates for a salvage car. I know I have freinds that have old cars that when they were in a small wreck it was cheaper for the insurance company to salvage it and pay the person and they just drove it as is, as it was not worth fixing.
This is in NC.

And you can get the salvage off the title if you transfer the title to another state and move it back, but it will always be with carfax as they use VIN's not what the state gives. So if you plan on keeping the car don't worry about the salvage title.

Now I have a 1975 Chevy Monza 2+2 and someone reareended my car and I was worried the insurance company was going to try and salvage it. But they were cool and just paid me what I told them I needed, as they didn't know what to do. And I have a classic and I want to keep it that way. :)
