Is The Yamaha NS-SP1800BL Any Good ?

Folks at avs like the Pioneer SP-FS52.

See if you can find sales of the pioneers. I thnk they were 99 each a few weeks ago in BB. And the surrounds were 99 for the pair some other week.

Maybe they'll put the 5.1 set onsale for Black Friday.

The sub is apparently no good, so you may want to get the speakers only.

Copied this from the cnet messages

The 2011 models are constantly on sale at NewEgg: $120 for a floorstanding pair + $50 for a bookshelf pair + $50 for the center + $75 to $85 for the subwoofer = $295 to $305, so you get effectively the same set as in the review for half the price.

Oh no please don't buy stuff from WALMART or TARGET. 🙁 Do some research on various audio forums and order the speakers. You can get better stuff for the money.

If your budget is low then put 5.1 out of your mind. Start with 2.0 and build up as you get the money. You can get a pair of Polk Monitor 30's for $119 or $100 on sale from newegg. Or a pair of Pioneer BS22's for about the same but they are horribly inefficient and will eat up your receivers power. Down the line when you have more money to spend get the CS1 center for $75 on sale. Then add a pair of Monitor 50's for $150 on sale for fronts or another pair of 30's. Then a decent sub. It's better to do it slowly with good speakers than get a crap HTIB that will never sound decent.

OP don't waste your money on that speaker system. Not worth it.

Remember, unless you get 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 woofers, don't bother.

Go for 2.1 system for now and add as you go.

Monitor 30s- 60 bucks on sale from Newegg
+ Polk PSW10 subwoofer ($80 bucks when on sale)

Eventually you can get a CS1 Center for 60-80 bucks and possibly add Monitor 50s (70-80 each) in the future and move your Monitor 30s to the back.

I'm not a fan of Pioneer speakers mostly due to the fact that they look like crap.

A crap 5.1 system isn't going to sound great just because it has surrounds, it just gives more channels of crap sound. A good 2.1 or 3.1 system will sound 10x better than a crap 5.1 system. You can get a pair of refurb Monitor 30's directly from polk on ebay for $90 shipped. A CS1 center is $63 if you can stand cherry or wait for one in black. That would be $242 for a solid 5.0 system. That would be my pick.

But if you want the absolute cheapest thing I would buy, this would be it. Pretty decent sound and that is a rock bottom price.

You say you have a sub but what is it? A decent sub can make a world of difference on low end speakers. A bad sub is just going to make things worse.

Decent enough. You can always upgrade it later down the line but it's good enough to do for now with what your looking at. It's big enough you can cross out the lows going to the rest of your speakers. For what your wanting to spend and really wanting 5.1 I'd go with the Jamo set I linked. Your not going to get anything close to the sound they provide at that price or within anything really close.

Down the road a BiC F12 is a great budget sub at $200.(Use one and love it) If you go $300 it opens your options up a bit.(Klipsch on sale at newegg often, Polk, and others.)
