Is the XP2800 a Barton core?

whats the difference besides the amount of cache?

There will be an actual Mhz difference, as the performance gains of the L2 cache will be factored into the PR rating. For instance, you have a 2800+ T-bred and 2800+ Barton, the Barton will be clocked significantly lower than the T-bred. 2500+ Barton is estimated to be clocked in the 18XXmhz range whereas the 2400+ T-bred is at 2ghz.

Don't buy a 2800+ until the official Barton launch or you'll get a T-bred. Bartons should be very specifically labeled at launch, with Barton cores eventually replacing the entire XP line and T-breds shifting to the Duron line.

Right. Even after launch you should be able to tell T-bred from Barton easily by the ammount of cache they have.

Does anyone know if there will be any difference in the numbering... Such as how Intel gave their Northwood an 'a' on the end. (i.e. P4-1.8 vs P4-1.8a)

It'll follow the XP T-bred scheme of AXDA [PR##] DKV3D. Off the top of my head, I believe the last "D" is L2 cache size. Other than that I don't think there are plans to put any special designation in the ####+ XP portion. Of the announced speeds, only the 2800+ overlaps any current XP CPUs and will probably be the first to be phased out (Since they are near impossible to obtain atm anyways).

Does anyone know if the current motherboards that support the Athlon XP will support the new barton????????
