Is the XP 90 overkill for my setup? I'm planning to overclock my 3500+ to its max (probably about 2.6 GHz). I have to replace my stock HSF with a new one or at least new thermal paste if I want to overclock because when I was installing the HSF I accidentally touched the thermal pad, which cause it to smudge. Now my CPU idles around 40C.

With the winchesters, you can just use the stock HSF and OC fine, so I would recomend just getting some AS5 for the heatsink, unless you plan on using a lot of volts.

Do you mean you touched the thermal pad when you installed it?

Right, I touched the thermal pad. Sorry I forgot to mention that. I think I'll just order the AS5 and see what my temps are. If it gets too hot then ill probably go buy a new HSF.

40C idle isn't too bad. mine idles around 34 on idle. not like you need to get a new hsf, but you mgiht want to look into it if you plan to do some heavy apps

Not really. My Winchester 3000+ runs at 36c load with F@H when the case fans are at 5v. Earlier I wondered by my processor was running at 43c load and I realized that the top of the heatsink was covered with dust, I think the panaflos being less then an inch away from the heatsink definately helped.
