Is the XBox's Unreal Championship based on the new Unreal 2003 Engine?

I am trying to decide which one I want to buy. I would rather get the XBox version if it is the same kick-butt new Unreal 2003 engine, with the XBox I can friends over to play... which is difficult on my PC. ;)

it's a similar engine, but different. Epic says that both games are based on "Unreal Technology" ;). both games seem to have similar levels of eye candy.

I think UT2003 is more based on the Unreal Championship engine than vice versa, considering 'UseXBoxFSAA=False' is in the UT2003.ini file.

There was a lot of media coverage about UT2003 using the new Unreal Warfare engine, but as it turns out, it doesn't, and UW is something to come in the future.

Can someone explain this to me? What engine does UT2003 use then, what will Unreal 2 be running with and what is this Unreal Warfare?

From what I understand is that UT2003 is built from scratch meaning that it's not based on previous UT engine; however, I wouldn't be suprised if some of the tech from the original was included. As for the UTXBox version coming out, that's based on the same engine as the UT2003 version; however, they are adding technologies and other material not currently present or unfinished in UT2003; such as vehicles, and from what I understand new levels plus what you see in the Unreal2003. From what I read somewhere, they were making slight modifications to several of the levels in UnrealT2003 so that they are easier to manuever around with an Xbox controller. They are also adding levels that will serve the X-box controller really well. Possibly some new weapons as well.

Unreal Warfare I doubt that we may ever see. Now I could be definitely wrong on this, but I do remember that either the Army or the Marines approached the Unreal team and purchased technology known as the Unreal Warfare engine, an engine and combat simulator so lifelike that it was used exclusively by them.

Thanks everyone for all of the great information. As it seems to be the consensus that Unreal Championship is based on the same engine as Unreal Tournament 2003, I think that I am going to go with UTXbox. I have read things similar to what kenclops has said about there being bonus levels and other tweaks for the XBox version. Unfortunately, I also watched an interview with one of the main developers and they are not including any vehicles. :(

Overall I think that the XBox version will look at least as good as the PC version, will have an additional team play type, additional maps, and other extras. In addition, I already have Live! and finding a non-laggy server on Live! will be soooo much easier than on the PC. The other big bonus is of course being able to have three friends in my living room with me playing...

I really love PC gaming and have been doing it for many, many years, but the XBox is making me choose to play less games on the PC. I have a sneaking suspicion that this trend will continue...

I was going to buy UC for Xbox but I picked up UT2k3 for the PC and it sucks!
I have already uninstalled it. boring!!!
Ut2k3 looks and plays like a patched version of UT.
They should of just patched it for free, like they do for Half Life.
Epic should give me my $29 back.
Why do you think Microsoft does not use UC in their live beta program?
Because they know it sucks.

BF 1942 is ten times better and it is also coming out for xbox.

Get mech assault for xbox, from the reviews, it looks to be the better looking and enjoyable multiplayer game.
I switched my preorder for UC to a preorder of splinter cell.
Shame on you Epic.

UT2K3 is by far the greatest game out right now. Translocators, wall jumps, double jumps, lightning gun, the ion painter.... so many good things in such a little package. I tell, I've never had so much fun as sending a beam from space down onto the puny opponents below! Call me cynical, just don't call me Sherley.

Oh... and did I mention that you can power up teammates using the link gun with your link gun. I'd kinda be afraid to see what happens when 5 teammates link to one another. Absolutely ingenious!

Well I have a copy of UT2K3 on my PC now, however I need to purchase the full version if I want to play online. I have to say that I like the game a lot, the graphics are great, the game overall is excellent, and I like the weapons and gameplay. I didn't get into the original Unreal Tourn. so I may like it because I don't have the old one to compare it to. :)

Overall I think that I am going to wait for Unreal Championship to come out and see what the reviews are like... I am still leaning towards the XBox version for the reasons that I have stated above, but I'm not ready to pre-order quite yet... ;)

that's incorrect. the UT2k3 engine and the UT engine are the SAME exact engine, one (UT2k3) is just something like build 950, and the other (UT) stopped at something like build 416. in that two years of difference, a lot of stuff was rewritten and added, but it's still the same engine.
