It has its drawbacks. If you are wanting to use it as a small format HD player for the PC it works well, but the audio will not out put the enhanced HD audio codec modes via USB or HDMI cable. If you want a good HD player for your HT system, you really do not want this player, since it's audio impaired in this regard.

Yep pretty much. Personally I don't see the need for hi-fidelity audio so I'd say xbox is a good player. Whats even better is a ps3 :p

It's a great HD DVD player. It's much faster than the A2 or A3. (I have the Xbox 360 HD DVD and the A2, and the A2 is slow. The A3 is just as slow.) For DVD upscaling though, the A2 is better.

Even for audio, the Xbox 360 is better... IF you use optical. The A2 converts to DTS, the A3 converts to DD, and the Xbox 360 gives the option of DD, DTS, or WMA Pro.

I looked into using the XBox as an HD DVD player. Text
I ended up getting the HD A3 from Sears for $169.
