Is the word "ghey" offensive?

I thought that it wasn't based on my understanding of the word similar to this definition from the Queers United blog:

"Ghey" is a postmodern redevelopment of the pejorative usage of the term gay. The term is supposed to convey a sense of being lame or uncool without offending gay people.

But before I use it some day and offend some snowflake who reports me and I get banned, I wanted to know if my understanding is correct.

Do you call black people nhyggaz or jhungle bhunnies?

I'm straight and not much of a SJW but I'd guess that the slightly-altered term is still offensive to some gays.

You could always just not use it, and not worry so much.

"Ghey" is a postmodern redevelopment of the pejorative usage of the term gay. The term is supposed to convey a sense of being lame or uncool without offending gay people.

The definitions of "lame" and "uncool" remain unchanged, so if you want to "convey a sense of being lame or uncool without offending gay people" then use "lame" or "uncool". Such a complicated problem, no wonder you were not able to figure it out on your own.

When I was a kid, calling someone 'ghey' was short for 'fvck off asshole' and you didn't get your mouth washed out with soap.
I've used it in mp fps games, sometimes people take it to mean 'gay' - so I call people idiots instead. Times change, move on.

Yes, in todays world it is.

Yet you can call someone "retarded" on here and it's a-ok. Make fun of someone who is scientifically and medically proven to be mentally impaired, and not able to live life like most of us. No problems with that. Pretty fucked up I think.

Yes, using an altered form of a slur is technically not ok. I'm sure that I say things from time to time that are not politically correct. That doesn't mean that it's ok. All it takes is one time that you say it and there's someone nearby that would take offense. You don't always get a make up. It's ok I have gay friends...

And what "scientifically and medically proven to be mentally impaired" person here is being made fun of in that manner? There are a lot of genuinely dumb people posting in this forum, but probably not many that are mentally impaired beyond just being not real bright.

I don't think I have called anyone a racial slur or used the word gay or lovely human my whole entire life.
