Is the Windows Firewall enough?

Do you all rely on the Windows Firewall alone + a good antivirus or is it a must these days with the kind of online threats that we see to have a different Firewall?

There are several addons to allow easier control of WFP without you having to spend days setting it all up to get some real usefulness out of it.

With that said, I'm enjoying Private Firewall which is free and has just about every consumer level firewall functionality you would want. It doesn't hold your hand as most other free alternatives do, which I prefer. Just show me what's available and let me configure it.

Unfortunately, Windows Vista/7 seems to have killed the market for personal firewalls, which is a shame, as the built-in Windows firewall is absolutely horrible.

Killed the market? I'm confused,,would you care to elaborate?

I know that the problem with the Windows Firewall is that it allows many apps by default to have a connection. Same thing with the Eset Smart Secucity Firewall,,,absolute POS! That's why I ditched Eset even though I still had a 3 user license valid until March 2013...but I want the best so I went ahead and about Kaspersky Internet Security FTW! They have improved it a lot in 2012 as it is very light on the system (provided you did a clean install and not had an AV before)

Before Windows Vista, there were several programs on the market that provided strictly firewalling service (KPF being my favorite). Since Vista and 7's release, I can choose between either the worthless built-in Windows firewall, or expensive and bloated "Internet Security" suites that have a bunch of shit I don't want.

well for me it is and to be honest i go all over internet and don't really worry about viruses.
the combination that i use is simple: eset nod 32 + windows firewall

How's the eset nod 32 antivirus, one of my friend was using it and it did make his computer a little slower.

The Windows Firewall is awesome if you actually spend the time to secure everything properly. Just use GPOs to centrally manage it and you are good to go. The previous versions of the firewall in Windows did suck though.

I'm sure the included windows firewall is sufficient, but I like seeing what is hitting my network and what is not. The level of granularity of a 3rd party application level firewall is nice. I'm using Kaspersky at the application level, and the stateful firewall built into the Linksys WRT54GL on my network.
