Is the Wii shortage over?

Or was my city just flooded with a random stockpile today?

I saw multiple Wii's in stock at;

Two Walmarts
Target
Bestbuy

One of the walmarts had at least 15 in stock.

I've only seen the Wii on the shelf 3 times since launch. I think a lot of stores are going to have the Wii Sunday for the Mario Kart launch.

Nor have I. A good indication of whether there is still a shortage would be big online retailers. As of now, Amazon.com, Bestbuy.com and Circuitcity.com are all sold out. I'd say the shortage continues...

I've only seen Wii in person twice, both times at Costco. 1 crate. Gone in an hour both times. I picked one up the 2nd time.

still sold out in SoCal. However, the going price on Craigslist isn't much higher than retail, so most people should be able to get one. The white DS on the other hand...

Yup, still hasnt fully gone away since launch. Its a lot easier to get one nowadays, but it still isnt waltz into any store and buy one easy. Once wii fit comes out though...forget about it. Same thing this xmas. It's almost as if they might go through this entire generation being perpetually sold out.

im pretty sure that its almost over, the stock lasts about a week by me from regular retail stores. I've been looking for a wii for my sister on ebay and i'm thinking about picking another one up, since i sold mine before christmas. I just bought a used system (newer revision with remote jackets), 6 actual games, extra remote and nunchuck, and charge station for $255 plus shipping. Im most likely going to keep this one. I've been seeing them for around $225~300 used with games and 250~325 new for just consoles and possibly 1 game.

I don't think it is. I just think it has slowed down temporarily. I fully expect the shortages to skyrocket again this Christmas if not sooner.

I'm wondering if I should pick another one up if I spot them anywhere. Can you still make a few bucks on them or what?

I'm socal as well, and during lunch I tend to go to whatever nearby shopping areas to wander around, and I noticed a lot of them restock their wii's on Tuesday. Might be worth a shot if you or anyone else in socal is still interested in a wii.

If anyone was curious on where.. Target and Walmart in Poway, and Sears in Carmel Mountain are where I run into them. About a quarter of the time, the management announces they have wii's in stock over the intercom.

I don't know if it is over but Nintendo has definitely ramped up the supply in anticipation of Mario Kart. My Wii Alerts have been going off like crazy all week long and now I just got a flyer in my email box about Toys R Us having "More Wii in-store than ever before!"

I got a circuit city add in my inbox saying wii's were in stock and the same TRU ad as Queasy. Either Nintendo is sending out more Wii or the stores have been stockpiling them for Mario Kart.

Im under the opinion that there never was a shortage.. they just kept the flow low to generate a buzz, and therefore sales.

an artificial shortage based on the highest produced system doesn't sound right.

And continuing the "artificial" shortage for a year and half no less! Nevermind that they also have to churn out DSes at an absurd rate. I really don't think willingly constricting supply for this long would benefit Nintendo at all. The extra $50 people pay to get it on eBay could buy a game instead. And since most of the good games are first party, that's money in Nintendo's pocket.

It's not just the fastest selling system this generation, it's the fastest selling system in history. Artificial shortage? 😕

but nintendo could just whip up another couple of factories and pump them out. or just source it out to someone to pack. they are doing it on purpose! they want all the buzz!

😉

Honestly, I dont see the shortage lasting until christmas, Wii Fit will probably be hard to find for a while, and there may be some shortages of the system around then, but when most of the profit is taken out of reselling the system, the guys from fatwallet will stop buying them up 20 at a time and youll see a more realistic supply in stores.

But then again, those no lifes over there will spend 5 hours on hold with some CS chump to save 50 cents on a jar of mayonnaise, so maybe not.
