Well you could opt for some tinted windows and a "White Male Inside" bumper sticker for the car. That may throw some people off. You could also stop watching too much TV or placing too much credence on what is shown. If you heil...hail from the Land of the Rising Sun, you may be right since that last Japanese-German combo didn't work out too well either. ;)

<< In commercials, VW always has white males driving the Jetta. Is the Jetta right for an asian male? I'm thinking of getting a Jetta instead of a Civic EX or a Mazda Protege5 and something just isn't clicking. What do you think? >>

Since when should you give a flying fvck what other people think is a car suiting for an Asian male or not?!? Get a car because you like it and can afford it. Sterotypes are for fools. Do what makes you happy not what some stupid stereotype suggests to you!

I am not a yuppie and what is wrong with Mexican made Jettas?

<< i think it would be fine.... Just make sure you get the 1.8t :) >>

got boost? :D
Just don't think that the Jetta seats more than the front two comfortably... just get a GTI, chicks dig cute cars... I have a "girlie" car too, girls go "oh, when did you get that car! I didn't know you had that car! Ooooo, ahhhh!" ;)

And for the numerous comments about the Honda... see my sig. :p

<< If a specific race or gender was ever applied to any car it would have to be an '89-'94(?) VW Cabriolet in white, which were mostly driven by spoiled, blonde (usually very cute) females! Ever see a male in one of these...LOL!!!! >>

Hey I drove one of those one day! Of course, the rest of the seats were filled with gorgeous babes, so I guess my masculinity remained intact.

My brother wanted to get one of those years ago, I told him to check his unit at the door, he then went and bought an eagle talon instead.

It symbolizes that the bottom line is more important than the end product. And we're not yuppies. Yuppies don't drive 10 year old cars. I'd buy just about any car (even a used VW) if the price was right, but VW gets too much for new ones.

As for that new Phaeton (SP, but I don't care), how many people are going to pay $50,000 for a VW? I don't foresee this new VW becoming a chart topper in it's price category.

<< heh, well old vw's are a bad buy:p reliability=questionable:p >>

Not from what I have seen but then again I was only a VW mechanic so my experience may not mean anything.

But the end product is reliable so what does it matter where it is made? There are a lot of Fords made in Mexico too. A lot of cars made by Japanese manufacturers are made in the states because it is cheaper than making them overseas and shipping them. BMW and Mercedes have factories in the states as well to help minimize costs and maximize profits. Most companies try to watch the bottom line because it helps them make money and businesses need to make money to stay around.

Well, if a white man went out into a black ghetto area with a '67 Chevy impala, with hydrolics, dressed like a black street punk(i.e., puff jaket, jordans, fubus and the like), he'd catch a few hott ones to the head in no time. So judging from the Jetta commercials, my advice to you is:

If you do buy the Jetta, take caution when driving through White Urban areas, and make sure to dress like your from another country. :D

The only reason they have white males predominantly in car commercials is because they make up the largest segment of new car buyers in America, therefore, they try to appeal to their bread and butter. It's simple economics really. I don't see it being that scewed where you would actually wonder if a car would be right for you, I mean if you go to Tokyo, i'm sure you'll find that the commercials there appeal to people of Asian descent, but not in America.
