is the USA becoming less tolerant of sexual diversity?

I've noticed changes in the USA media over the past year. For example the number of drama or comedy programs with openly gay characters has dropped to zero, gay characters have been removed or 'de-gayed' from popular programs such as Heroes, and so on.

There have always been a small number of people in our society who would like to make gay people to shut up completely about their gay lives. Have these people become more influential in the USA over the past year?

Even on this forum, I've noticed recently (the past 1-2 months) that it is impossible to discuss any aspect of my life on this forum that acknowledges the fact that I am a homosexual without attracting an avalanche of criticism from the usual suspects.

I wonder why this is happening.

No.

Your militancy and occasionally heterophobic posting tendencies are not of much help though.

I think you just bug people and are viewed as a troll by many for your fanatically pro-gay stance. Other gays on the forum don't catch anywhere near as much grief as you.

Posting something like this is almost as bad as posting about CBS's homosexual fixation because you could kind of construe a penis out of Prince's guitar in the super bowl.

I demand that vegetarians play a more prominent part in TV programs. How many shows do you know with openly vegetarian characters?

The problem is that everyone just assumes because most of us are omnivores that its ok to exclude vegetarians from TV shows, but its not, they have feelings too, and I'm tired of these bastards and their omnivore only TV programming.

I think its the meat industry, they've always hated vegetarians.

Who cares what a forum full of nerds think (myself included)? I don't give a sh1t that you are gay or straight, but some people feel the need to put things down that they have no clue about. This is why I don't post any tattoo stuff. You might think creed is a good band, i think they suck.....
Its all relative.

Who on Heroes was "de-gayed"?

The cheerleader's friend, Zack. I don't know how gay he was to begin with, though.

Didn't even know he was gay to begin with.

He's a minor character, so I don't know that it even had any relevance to the show.

This thread is now about the Heroes character Zack.

Zack, like all male friends of attractive females, wants to bone said female secretly. He hopes by being a good friend she can rely on, she'll start to think of him "that way". That is of course incorrect. Discuss.

You're being hyper-sensitive, Will & Grace had to go off the air sometime.

Did you notice who won the song Oscar, and who hosted the program?

Ya, hes not as friendly as he was before....

Thats only because his memory was erased. He still hasn't decided (erronously) that he might have a shot.

He's a good question, if claire is a virgin would it be possible to deflower her? Or would it keep healing back up?

Wow, are we talking about Zack's life or mine when I was younger?

"Being separated from her family and all those that love her, she finds herself yearning for the one person she secretly loves the most. Not Zack (because she just wants to be 'friends'), but Peter Petrelli. Zack goes on the rampage after hearing she doesn't love him 'that way', and becomes the person who actually blows up NYC in an attempt to kill Peter and Clair."

This is an exaggeration. Scrubs, The Office, My Name is Earl, South Park, the Simpsons, the Sarah Silverman Program, Depserate Housewives -- these all have gay characters.

In fact, I'd say gays are over-represented when you compare the number that appear on TV (and the screen time they get) to the percentage of the population that openly identifies that way. Kind of like how black people were over-represented on television in the early/mid 90s. I think the American audience just develops interest in different minorities at different times. Right now we're probably just seeing the gradual downward slope of the gay trend.

You don't have to click the thread, you know. At least this is a departure from steak, cars, and YAGTs.
