Most people in America are racist, Democrats and Republicans alike. Sadly, I give Obama no chance in beating an old white guy. I'm sure plenty of people wouldn't vote for Obama because of his policies instead of his race. Unfortunately quite a few people would vote against him because he's black. Same deal for Hillary.

Of course people don't come right out and proclaim their racism... it's not the 50's anymore. They find other reasons that feed into stereotypes. Hillary is weak and indecisive because she's a woman... Obama is only getting attention because he's black. (affirmative action for president!)

It comes from the same source that makes you have friends who are black, lets you say how progressive and inclusive you are, but when a black guy is walking behind you in a parking garage makes you tense up in fear. Yeah, most of us are racist. I try really hard not to let it influence my decisions. I somehow doubt enough voters would on election day though.

I do not think that race will be as big of a factor as you might think. I think Obama could win by a landslide, but I won't vote for an extremely liberal Democrat such as Hillary and would hope that the evangelical right would swing their vote back to Republican if they were to put her up as their front runner. It has nothing to do with her sex, but more of her political stances.

I was talking to a self confessed conservative Republican one day in my local pub. He expressed interest in a Clinton \ Barack presidential ticket. My response was not in the US anytime soon. People hate Ms Clinton because she is a woman and Mr Barack does not have the right skin color.
People disapprove of Mrs. Clinton because of her politics, not because she is a woman...she is a lightning rod for controversy, and honestly does not deserve the honor of being the first female President of the United States.

Obama on the other hand has a lot of positive buzz to his name...race is hardly an issue given Obama's rather successful and storied career to date...however, for Obama to get my vote, he will have to be color blind as well...the moment he starts pandering to the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons of his party is the moment he loses my respect...the sad thing is, that dynamic is already starting to come into play.

As usual, the Democrats don't know which battles to fight.

You all are going to make a big stink about Hillary being a woman, and it's going to backfire. "You don't want to vote for Hillary because she's a woman." And people are going to think to themselves, "No, that's not correct." All you are going to do is remind them why they really don't want to vote for her. You're going to make an issue out of something that isn't important, or rather, you are going to allow the Republicans to make it an important issue.

Kind of like in '04, the Democrats didn't scream "Iraq, Iraq, Iraq," they allowed the Republicans to scream "gay marriage, gay marriage, gay marriage."

Just STFU about Hillary being a woman, let her be as she is, a person, let her stand on her own merit.

Otherwise, the Democrats are going to look like the ones making a big stink about it, and the American people won't like it. They don't like being told they are sexist, nor racist, nor hillbillies, nor religious whackos, nor rednecks. Even if they really are. You can't win votes by offending the very people from whom you want votes.

The Democrats just need to learn how to play the game. Yes, they won last Tuesday. But seriously, the Democrats won because a fvcking retard sent 200,000 American troops into a country that never attacked us, killing over 600,000 of their civilians, tortured thousands more, and spent 2.2 trillion dollars of the tax payers' money doing it. And still lost.

The Democrats can't count on that happening very often.

Could you please provid a link where Democrats talk about Ms Clinton being a woman as a negative?

Uhh, the title of this thread. :D

Or maybe you misunderstood.

The thread's title is from a Washington Post article.

Yep. What im thinking. Think of how many Americans are not racist but would be pissed if their daughter brought boyfriend Obama to family dinner. THESE are the votes that just cannot be won regardless of policy.

Republicans are smart people who can't be fooled twice. They voted for Bush who proved to be a disaster and made fools of them. Now there is no way they will take a chance and admit to being fools and vote for a Democrat because the same thing might happen again. That ever they get behind is sure to be a disaster so lets follow the other lemmings into the sea.

I could care less. As a matter fact I've never meet a racist of any color. Or maybe I just don't notice. What I do notice it's about class, income levels etc..sometimes religion. Most of the time my friends I play poker with (thats when people really tend to speak thier minds) discriminate based on worthlessness. Like calling out bumbs, lowlifes and other stuff that date thier daughters. Obama certainly would'nt qualify. Must be a southern thing. Or more likly you two seem to have fallen victim to blame game. I'll admit blacks are'nt given the same opportunities however that has more to do with you hire your freinds and peoples seem to hang same race and whites have all the wealth..especially at upper levels..the American Aristocracy, blue bloods and such. Normal white kids don't get hired for those jobs either..like heading up a top brokerage firm, private bank etc.

Most Black Politicians represent a Black point of view simply because in many cases a they often come from areas with a larger percentage of a Black vs White population. Basically they are representing their Black Constituants. This is all fine because that is how they got elected. I can see how this will not fit in well with the American Majority.
