I know a lot of people really value the Thanksgiving meal and some people don't care at all (like my family). To me Thanksgiving is about getting family and friends together, but some people really seem to care about the meal too.

How do you fare?

if you don't love the food, you aren't doing it right

my mom is a bad-to-mediocre cook and I never eat more than a polite serving, so the food isn't really a high priority to me.

but it's always nice to sit around the table with the extended family polishing back a couple bottles of wine.

Hmm usually like the stuffing more then the turkey.
Though it's a special mix though, and takes a ton of adjustment to get right every year, so yeah. :p

you need a better cook

I've had meals at other people's houses as well. Wonderful food. Food just doesn't excite me. Especially not the kind of food that gets served at Thanksgiving.

Now that I think about it, I probably don't care about the meal because I don't like American food that much. If it was a ton of food from a more flavorful cuisine, I might be more excited about it.

Nope. 1/2 Chinese family here. My father, who is white, never really celebrated TG anyway. But then it's not as big a deal up here in Canada as it is for you guys down there. We still use it as an excuse to go out for dinner. But then we eat out as a family 2-3 times a week anyway so, yeah, nothing special.

And TG was on Oct 10 up here. :D

last sunday we had 12 for dinner, with enough food for 48. the usual is 6/24. thanksgiving and christmas is when my aunt really goes nuts! she puts on a culinary tour de force, climaxing with prime rib, stuffed shrimp and twice baked potatoes for christmas dinner. and her daughters cook things now, too. mind you, i'm the only one in the family even remotely fat.

My family gets together for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Although we are all non-religious, we end up having turkey for thanksgiving and christmas as well as hams on both occasions, sometimes a lamb rack on christmas too. Easter we change it up it has been ham, turkey, steaks, etc. It isnt important what day it is. It is just a convenient time everyone has off work, classes, etc. And we can get together and share a large well prepared meal. So yes we do care about the meal. But there is no real significance to the day.

Thanksgiving is a time that my neighborhood friends hold our annual Turkey Bowl. Some friends I don't see all year make it out to this football game. It's a lot of fun.

Also the football game son t.v. are always fun to watch, especially while eating turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes and green bean casserole. I love ending it all with some dark beer.I sleep good on Thanksgiving.

Not a big deal for me. I live in a country where I've already got access to ridiculous amounts of food 24/7. :)

No big deal for me. I eat the food, but I am never excited for turkey or stuff like that. I'd be just as happy with a beer in my hand, pizza in front of me, and football on TV. As a matter-of-fact, I had nowhere to go one Thanksgiving in college and that is exactly what I did. :D

yes. its a great time to have some good food with family. I don't care for most of my family but its the one time of year i put up with them.

also my niece is a hell of a cook. she just finished up culinary school in chicago (no idea which one). she is going to make a bunch of stuff for turkey day this year.

eh. If I want a nice meal, I'll have one. Why wait for thanksgiving, especially considering that turkey is not very good.

I remember a lot of family get togethers on TG that were an excuse to overindulge in food and alcohol. Then the DUI laws changed and people got paranoid.

Our family holiday is less formal and more restrained now. A few years ago my nieces and nephews complained about the turkey and someone gave them leftover spaghetti from the night before. Now its a family tradition, with both served to the delight of my younger relatives.

From my earliest memories we have been celebrating Thanksgiving at my Aunt and Uncles house. I have missed it exactly 2 times, once when I spent it in Indiana with my high school girlfriends family and once in 1984 when I spent it in Montreal with the woman who is now my wife. As my Aunt and Uncle are now in their late 70's I know there are likely not many more left so I cherish it even more.

It's more about the event. The food is good, but that doesn't really get me excited for Thanksgiving.
