Is the "test changes" one does after overclocking nVidia cards ever supposed to fail?

What overclocking utility are you using? Those do seem to be very high values that you're trying. And yes the test will fail if you went to high.

sure. mine fails at 413 on the core, and around 875 on the mem using 6693 drivers. 6681 would let me go 410/900, so it varies somewhat. i let it run 400/850.

Why, artifacts and instability, of course.

Bleh, 390/828 is the highest stable I can get the card before things start to hit the fan, so I guess the test isn't lying. Drat.

Artifacts and instability? I'm not going that far on a $200-$500 video card. 😀

The test can spot them before you can see them, I guess.

Are you reffering to Coolbits or any program?
You should be careful with o/c utilities anyway. I only use Rivatuner which I find the most reliable program to go with.
