Is the stock HS/fan on P4 2.8c good enough for OC?

HI,

I'm thinking of getting a P4 2.8c and overclock it to around 3.4-3.5 GHz. Should I buy a boxed CPU with HS and fan? or a bare CPU and a better HS fan separately? Also the price is only $10 difference.

Thanks

why risk potential heat problems?

3.5ghz? get the best cooler you can get ~ you wont regret it :)

Yes, If you keep it at default voltage it deos'nt matter how much you OC. I run a barton at 2.3GHZ on a $5 HSF because my Vcore is low enough and temps never get above 50C.

Yes, if you are not raising voltages at all, then the stock heatsink is good enough. Otherwise what the 'other guy' said. ;)

just raising the cpu's speed will increase the power dissipation and heat of the cpu even without raising the voltage. You would be best off to get a thermalright slk-948 or sp-94. the cpu you will be getting may not make it as high as you want because the extra heat from the stock heatsink will be holding it back.
