is the signal cable from a APC UPS just a regular seial cable?

I need to connect an older APC ups to the computer is protecting, but don't have the cable, I can't figure out if I can use any old serial cable or if APC uses a different one.

Anybody know?
 
It's not needed, but if you want the automatic shutdown to work you have to have it. My Dad's got an older "dumb" one that's just basically a battery pack.
