Is the SGI 1600SW LCD worth the extra $110 over the Planar LCD?

The SGI has a faster response if I'm not mistaken. Also it's wide aspect ratio makes for playing DVDs alot better IMO, and also for regular computing needs. Have two windows open without tabbing between them is a godsend IMHO.

But you can get the refurbed one for less if you want. $550 for refurbed monitor which retails for $1500??? no question about it. It all depends if you want a wide aspect or normal monitor.

-edit-
And no rebate hassles? I'm really contemplating getting the SGI LCD tomorrow. Gotta convince myself first that I need it. :D

I thought I read somewhere in the SGI thread that it's width is actually smaller than the Planar?

I wish I could see both of them side by side in real life to compare the differences in everyday computer use.

The SGI has a better response time than the Planar? If so, give me the times if you can.

I think they're in the first $683 Planar thread or the new SGI thread. Since I'm not into gaming I don't think response time would be that much of an issue for me.

I read through the whole $550 SGI thread last night and the concensus is that the SGI is better for gaming, has better image quality, and is just the overall better display. Besides, the SGI whooped up on the NEC and Sony displays in GamePC's roundup. Not bad for a 2+ year-old design.

The only thing you need to worry about buying LCD is dead pixel.
If it came with bad pixel and they won't rma it. it's bad.

I bought 19.6" from dell and it came with 1 stuck pixel, lucky they replace them
and it was perfect the second time. Some manufacturer have min limit of 8 dead pixel
for RMA.

So if you buy direct from SGI, the only thing you need to worry is that if it does have a dead pixel can you RMA it. if not, can you live with it.

I certainly can't since it's $3000 and 1 dead pixel is one too many dead pixel in my opinion.

(edit) I forgot :) My point is by buying direct might have disadvantage of strict rma policy. (/edit)

The LCD is Eizo Flexscan L771.
It was awesome, the review that I read about them don't lie.

IMO it has better color vibrance and text clarity than
my 2020u or maybe it's just my brain trying to adjust
a hole in my pocket :)
