I have an Audigy2 soundcard, and I'll be using headphones mostly for music. Is the HD-580 worth the extra money? Will I notice a difference?

580s are 300 ohms and power-hungry even at that resistance, being senns. You'd need an amp. 280s are 64 ohms.

it amplifies the signal so that the cans are driven properly .. (i think) ; 580's are open air, so don't plan on taking it to any loud environment or to the library (will disturb others).

the 580s are really polite sounding, the only thing they are really good at is classical music. they would also expose the ****ness of your audigy 2.

edit: and like others said the audigy 2 cannot sufficently power the 580 anyhow. why not consider the audio technica A500s?

there isn't an answer to that. everyone's listening tastes are different than other people's.
