is the sandforce 2281 based sandisk extreme SSD good?

really thinking about picking one up for my laptop or main drive. i'm very wary of purchasing a sandforce based controller because of its history. I've been holding out for a deal on the samsung or intel drives. stability is #1 for me, but this seems like a tough deal to resist and reviews out there seem good for it.
 
I think it is possibly the first SF-2281 based SSD to use 24nm toggle mode NAND, so this SSD will be very fast.

@ Olaf.. why would they need a firmware update for such a new drive, without any known firmware issues to date I might add, when they've waited so long after initial controller release for others to pave the way for them to come out swinging?

I was just thinking of future support since this company is not know for making ssd

I thought you were asking the question because of Sandisk's stance on firmware upgrades in general....

"according to one of their reps on chat, sandisk does not provide firmware updates for their ssd products. their ssd series are sold 'as is' items and no current or future updates are required. i find this real strange as most manufacturers of ssds provide firmware updates and tools for their ssd line of products. as new fixes and patches come out, these tools provide a means to resolve any exisitng problems and/or enhance performance. i'm not 'knockin' on the performance/reliability of sandisk's ssds but for future ssd purchases, i probably would go with a different competitor as they provide additional tools and support for their ssd products."

@ bradley. That was a rep saying that? LOL.. not the best idea for any product rep to be so candid on the subject for which he gets paid to talk about.

Don't get me wrong.. guards will be dropped and I certainly appreciate such candor if I'm weighing my options as a potential buyer.. but not so smart from a job security standpoint, I would assume. :sneaky:
 
i have managed to hold myself off on this deal. ssd prices will only drop more. and hopefully i will be able to get myself the samsung one
