Is the processor damaged?

I just receieved my new unlocked Duron 750. This I plan to use alongwith a Hedgehog-238M. When I was basically checking things out I nooticed that there is quite a distance between the part on the processor that stands up (right in the centre) and the base of the Hedgehog. Though I am planning to use Artic Silver I am wondering if this is normal or has the centre got crushed.

Any input would be greatly appreicated coz if that is the case I need to send this back to the vendor immediately

Its pretty easy to spot a crushed core, little pieces missing. When you install the HOG, do it with the mobo out of the case. When you fasten the clamp, the 4 foam pads on the cpu will compress. You should see no light between the hsf and the core. Arctic Silver is not meant to fill the space, just displace the air.

Did what you asked me to....no light passing between the HSF and the core...Whew!!! That was a relief..
