I'm trying to decide on a DVD burner for my new system. I've seen the Pioneer 108 at a good price and was thinking about buying that one. The Pioneer A08 seems the be the same one, although with a better looking front panel.

Well I have the Pioneer 108 and it works great for me! I have burned over 50 DVD's already and not 1 coaster yet. I also like it because its a very quiet drive. I have the retail version. I heard the NEC is a little faster but I pock the Pioneer for quiet use and its fast for me. I don't see how anyone who buys the Pioneer 108 could not be happy.

Yes. One is OEM bare drive (108) and one is the retail box with software (A08)

For $50 more you get:

Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3.5 Disc CreatorÊallows you to burn movies, slideshows, data and music to CD or DVD in an instant.
Ulead Video Studio 8.0SEÊallows first-time users to edit and create professional-looking videos with ease.
Ulead Photo Explorer 8.5SEÊprovides an efficient way to transfer, browse, modify and distribute photos, music and video.
Ulead Burn.NowÊ1.5Êis easy to use disc recording software, enabling you to take full advantage of the DVR-A08XL to create data and audio discs plus copy discs.
Ulead DVD PlayerÊ1.5Êoffers high compatibility and plays commercial DVDs and DVDs created by other Ulead products.
NovaBACKUP 7.1Êhelps prevent loss of data. NovaBackup offers the choice of a variety of different backup media, including DVDs and CDs. Its ease of use and advanced options makes it an ideal solution for any home user, small business or large corporation.
Plus I also got Nero with a couple...

The most Important fact that hasn't been stated is that the Retail version supports Quiet Drive Technology whereas the OEM does not...I noticed a difference between the 2

EDit= and the Box :p

Looks like a nice software bundle, but the Quite Drive Tech. is what I would pay an extra $$ for.
