Is the Panasonic TH50PX500 a good buy?

Its not a good buy

Its a BEST buy. There is no better combination of performance and value than Panny 50's, except for the commercial Panny 50's (TH-50PHD8UK) and arguably rebadged Panasonics (Maxent mx-50x3)

Personally I'm not a fan of 42" plasmas (not true HD, interpolation, rectangular pixels). At 42" you should at least consider looking at Syntax Olevia 42" LCDs at $2000.

AVS forums is down at the moment but when its back up, you've got some reading to do over there. Here is a link to a store highly regarded over there at AVS, that sells the commercial models, and has special pricing for AVS.
