Is the P3V4X picky about slotket adapters?

Some people say they have trouble overclocking with slotkets from MSI and Iwill on the P3V4X. They suggest staying with an Asus adapter for this board.

Please let me know what you think. Thank you.

I tried a lot of slotkets on that board, only the Asus and the Iwill 2 worked reliably. I prefer the Iwill because of it's sturdier construction.

I have been using an Abit for the last 6 months with no problems on P3V4X.

I don't have an Asus board. But I've got a Soyo SY-6VCA with the same chipset.
Your question was about slotket adapters. I just got through a weird problem, that seems to relate to my Asus adapter.
I know it's a lot of reading. But if you read my relpies, you'll get the gist of the progression and resolution.

Thanks everyone. More responses are welcomed.

Blain - Thank you for sharing your experience. I am still interested in hearing why disabling the cache seems to help when it appears to be a specific cpu/slotket/mobo combination.

With my related problem, the slotket appears to work at default speeds, but does not when overclocked. The system post, but BSOD after that. Now most people would immediately say that the cpu is at fault. But the cpu has been verified to overclock at default voltage on a CUSL2 ,which of course, uses no adapter.

I was using some generic slocket on the p3v4x with a celeron 566 overclocked to 850mhz with no problems.

Well I put a Celeron 667 in my P3V4X MB with an Abit slokit. I will overclock to 752 Mhz at the default 1.65V but will not boot at higher speeds. Seems like it ought to go higher than that.

It seems that slotket problems are not all that unusual when considering the number of posts on this forum. One post mentioned that they overclocked with a Generic Slotket and had no problem. I too have found the best luck with the generic over a Abit III I tried. Go figure, you spent extra money after reading reviews and end up with less performance. If possible I think it is best to set everything you can in the Mobo Bios and leave the Slotket to Auto.
