Is the only way to get any discount on apple products...

Or wait until they release a new model, the previous gen models go on sale at Amazon and other retailers. I picked up my MacBook from Amazon for $150 less than even the refurbs went for.

You have to be quick though, they go fast.

Refurbs seem to be a fantastic deal pretty much all the time. I've never seen a company discount for more than 10%, and the refurbs are always a better deal than that.

i went to an apple store yesterday. i resisted purchasing an mbp on the spot. i'm proud of myself.

Discounts:
- Student, corporate, and government workers
- Refurbished
- Mail in rebates from Amazon and some other retailers
- Last year, AMEX offered a $100 coupon off of any $1,000 Apple purchase. I bought a refurbished iMac.

When I was a student, I signed up to be an ADC Student Developer, which gave me a large, 1-time discount on a PC purchase. It costs $99, but that got me Leopard and about $600 off my MBP, which was well worth it for me.

microcenter usually has some good deals on the last gen stock on hand. you're a bit limited in choices, but it's usually a pretty good savings.
