Is the onboard sound on SN45G crap for anyone else?

I've had this box for a couple weeks now. I'm quite dissapointed with the audio. I thought the nForce MCP-T audio was supposed to be good.

I get static in CS, and listening to MP3's is also not as clear.

Anyone else have issues with it? It makes me want to go back to an Audigy, but I don't want the additional heat. Plus, I REALLY like to be able to plug in my headset on the front and not have to swap out my speakers and headphone plug every time I want to use it.

Is there anyway to use the front jacks on a seperate sound card?

oops, misread. Thout you said SN41G...I always get them confused!

hmm...my SN41G2 sounds great. Vast improvement over my previous Live! card. Maybe try a driver reinstall? Check you speakers/cabling?

I have an SN41G2 and the sound is great, even overclocked (BTW, I upgraded the cooling with a better 80mm fan and this has a heatsink on the southbridge, runs at 175FSB ATM). My wife's A7N8X's sound has static when overclocked, though (runs at 185FSB ATM). I am guessing that it has something to do with the southbridge getting hot; I'm going to throw a heatsink on it and see if that helps. Just my experiences with a couple of nForce boards - maybe you have a heat issue or you need to reload drivers.

After messing with it more, it has to do with the mic in/output.

If I have the mic muted in my volume settings, static is gone and everything is crystal. This is regardless if the mic is plugged in or not. It seems like an issue with the mic plug itself. Anyway, when I'm not playing CS, I have mute the mic. Just kind of a nuisance to have to go in and unmute it everytime I want to play.

Quite a few soundstorm users have had the same issues you are and here is a FAQs for the NF2 audio link My SN45G hasn't had any of the problems but I mostly use it for Capturing TV and playing DVDs. The only games I've played so far are Hulk and BF1942.
