Is the onboard RAID5 controller of the Asus AN8-SLI slower than a Highoint 1640 PCI RAID5 controller?

Are there any AN8-SLI that use the onboard RAID controller? Is it slow?

Thanks!

There is no RAID5 built into A8N. I am a bit weary of Highpoint products in general, and I certainly would not trust my data with their software RAID5 implementation.

Hmmm...I am running RAID5 on the A8N SLI Deluxe and it seems a bit slower than the HighPoint 1640 PCI RAID5 controller I had in before. hmmmm... Any idea on what PCI RAID5 controller would be best? Although I am running PCI Express, i have the two PCI Express slots taken.

thanks!

duh, what was I thinking. Missed the "DELUXE" part. (blush)

That said, both the onboard SI implementation and HP implementation are software based (runs their RAID code off the host CPU.) If you want something better, you'll have to go with something like 3Ware or such with onboard CPU.
