Is the Nintendo DS worth getting?

I owned and liked my psp, however that's the biggest piece of flamebait I've seen from a diamond member.

nintendo dominates it in sales

whether either is worth is if you aren't 12 is questionable. how long does it take for u to take a sh*t is the question i guess. toilet entertainment.

psp for movies? if u can sit for 2 hours u probably have a laptop which does that job much better. mp3? ipod...gaming at home? a freakin console or pc.

My wife got me the DS with Mario Kart package for Christmas and I love it. I've got 4 games and they're all quality titles. The biggest drawback is the fact that most people still consider Nintendo to be a child's company (see 0roo0roo's post). Do I take it places with me? No because I'm usually driving. I've mostly played it at home or at my in-laws place.

It's a great little handheld. The PSP looks pretty, but I've heard time and again that it doesnt have many games worth getting. Plus, it's $100 more than the DS and looks as though you have to wipe it with a diaper every day (fragile, too nice to toss around). The DS on the other hand is built to be thrown in a backpack or bag of sorts.

I also just picked up the Mario Kart pack and am enjoying Castlevania. I think it?s a great little system; the touch screen is a bit quirky but adds to some games. I looked at a PSP for a while and decided it didn't have any games I would like to play. I then checked out the DS lineup and liked the looks of it, that coupled with the fact that I can play all my GBA games on it.

I think it all depends on what type of games you are interested in, if the DS has some I say pick one up.

I have a PSP, and I wished I got a DS instead. Reasons:

Generally PSP games are lackluster compared to DS games in terms of gameplay.
The PSP and its games is much more expensive.
The PSP is really cool looking, but at the same time it is very fragile. A drop to the floor and the PSP will probably be dead.
Mediocre battery life for a portable console.

I have a DS Mario Cart edition. It was quite an eye opener when I did Battle Arena and found out that to get another balloon I had to physically blow into the mic to blow up my balloon. Its funny to watch people do this as well.

Just remember. The Atari Lynx was pretty and full of potential too. I like some of the features on the PSP but I prefer the gaming library of the DS. Plus the PSP has been out for quite awhile now and all I heard about is 'potential'. Maybe it's time to live up to some of that, eh?

I own five or six games for my DS, and I absolutely love it. It's a real breath of fresh air, gameplay-wise. I won't pretend to have owned a PSP, but I've played my friends a few times. It's a powerful system, to be sure, but... Well, as people have said, there aren't any games that either look interesting, or that aren't available on a console.

I have a DS too, but the only games I have right now are Meteos and Jump Superstars... can anyone suggest some other good/fun games?

There is not ONE game on PSP that I am dying to play. Hence DS > PSP.

I tried GTA3 on the PSP and was very disappointed. The controls felt sloppy, the gameplay wasn't all that fun, the motion blur was excessive and nauseating (and no way to turn it off!), and the graphics weren't all that special. And this was the only game on the PSP that even remotely interested me. Yeah the web browser part is nice, until you realize that it can't load 95% of pages on the net because it runs out of memory. My friend has a PSP and all he does with it is use it as an mp3 player.

I have way more fun on my DS.
