Is the NEC/Mitsu FE991SB-BK 19" SuperBright Diamondtron the right one?

hey guys,

I am wanting to purchase a new 19" monitor, one that is REALLY nice. I am going to move my 17" IBM P72 (which I love BTW) to another computer. These NEC's are under 300 bucks, NICE price.

I am looking at the NEC/MITSUBISHI FE991SB-BK 19" SuperBright Diamondtron CRT. I am checking to make sure this is the right monitor. Is this the SWEET one? because I remember a guy posted about two different NEC/Mitsu models and people told him that one was a good bit better than the other. I can't remember if the two he posted were different because one was aperature grille and the other was shadow mask or what.

I'm just trying to make sure this is the right one. If you need more information let me know!

Thank you for your help.

no. the one you want is 930sb which has been discontinued.

Curious, are you planning pairing this monitor up with your SLI cards? If so, you should really be looking at 22" 2141 or 2070.

Thanks Naustica. That pisses me off to hear that but I had remembered one had been discontinued.
What is the difference between the two, do you know offhand?

And no I won't be doing SLI with this new computer and I don't think a 22" will fit in my desk thing. I only have 2 1/4" or so on each side of this monitor. I actually would have to check dimensions before I ordered a 19" even

thanks for the help. This is very dissapointing to me, guess i'll just forget about it then. I'm sure as hell not buying a LCD right now

And does anyone know if anyone has the 930sb in stock anymore?

What was the price on those anyone remember?

I'm not that familar with Nec/Mitsu 19" models. I do know 930sb does higher resolution but 991sb doesn't look too bad. 1280x1024 @ 85hz and 1600x1200 @75hz for 19" is pretty good. You might try NEC live chat help or check out Nec/Mitsu site to get more info.

Thanks. I don't use anything above 1024x768. On this new computer I might use 1280x1024 and even that is a maybe.

If the resolution was the only difference then i'm not so upset 🙂

I have a feeling there was probably some huge difference like image clarity, color reproduction, brightness, text clarity, or something important

hopefully someone can chime in

I have the 930SB.

The 930SB has the same dot pitch across the entire screen, while the 991SB has a higher DP around the edges than the center. Overall, the 930SB has better clarity. It does 1920x1440 max @ 73Hz and 1600x1200 @ 85Hz.

The 991SB is a good monitor if you can get it for ~$220. There are still a few 930SBs kicking around too - I've seen a few on eBay and Amazon.

Superbright is a really nice feature. It not only brings out details, it makes games look more 3 dimensional.

thanks man

I won't settle for a 991sb them. If I can't get a 930sb I won't even get a new one

This is the place you want. 930sb for $199. No tax, plus shipping, then a $10 off coupon. Yes, it's refurb, but it's refurb from Nec-Mitsu itself, so it has a 1-yr warranty, with options to increase another 1 or 2 yrs on top.

I just got a 2070sb for $330 shipped. It arrived fast and in perfect shape (looks brand new). Weighs as much as my old man's new 42" plasma, but it's a gorgeous picture. I'm still trying to find the best resolution, since I share this with the wife and 16x12 is a bit small for her eyes.

The one you want is discontinued the 930sb, why? Cause it has U-NX gun for razor sharpness vs 3 guns on 991. Not that the 991 is terrible but it is'nt the 930.

You might stop using computers altogether if you have to go to LCD. I will.

I couldn't find the 930SB so i got a FE2111SB instead. Basically the same thing but 22" and cost less too! I got mine from azatek.com, so far no problems other than a stuck power button which im sure i can fix.

Picture quality looks great. It's very close to being as sharp as an lcd and the color is bright. Super bright is worthless though, sure it makes things brighter but colors become a little bit washed out.

The only real problem i have with the monitor is the grille lines. My sony tv has them but they are very faint, on these monitors they are a lot more noticeable.

EDIT: by the way how should you clean these screens? On my old monitor i used a towel and some water but these one have glare coating and i don't want to remove that.

Sweet price, I paid about twice that for mine(2141). How are you liking it?

Loving it. Keep forgetting to turn on SB mode for playing games though. I'm sure the brightness makes it look even better, but the picture is so dang good as it is. My 19" Dell (Sony) was dying on me-- dark, no rich color, etc. This is miles better than that Dell was in its prime.

It's a monster. But the desk in my study is a monster as well, so it fits on there just fine and looks perfect. Probably the best $300 I've spent on my system ever. Now all I need is an upgrade for this old 5900ultra and I'll be even happier.
