Is the Microsoft OneCare registry "clean up" scanner Vista compatible?

Anyone know? Last time I checked, it wasn't. If not, what are people using to clean/repair the registry within Vista?

I think most people use CCleaner for general cleaning,as to registry cleaning well you'll get pro's and con's on that.

Yeah, I know. But I've used the OneCare online registry cleanup tool several times on PCs running Windows XP and have found it to be very good. It finds a lot of orphaned/obsolete registry entries everytime I use it, and I've never had a problem after doing the cleanup. It also sets a System Restore point automatically beforehand, so there really isn't much to lose.

I tried it several months ago on a Vista machine, however, and it wouldn't work.

Heh heh -- you beat me to it! I just went back to the LiveOneCare site a minute ago and found that, then came back here to edit my post and mention what you just did. :p

So now the question for others reading this thread is: Have you used it, and if so, what's your opinion of it? I'm typically a little skiddish about trying Beta versions of software, particularly on other people's machines (which is what I'll be doing in this case).

I've used it as an online scanner on machines I don't want to hobble with excessive real time scanning, etc. It seems to do the job just fine and without any problems afterwards.

Guilty as charged... :D

The only two proggies I use these days are Crap Cleaner aka CCleaner and SpyBot S&D!

The funny thing is, since I started using Crap Cleaner (autorun @ boot - manual run @ shutdown), Spybot NEVER finds problems any more - it's eerie!

For the most part, the only thing I *need* Spybot for is 'Immunization'...

Sooo... IMHO, Microsoft OneCare (and any number of other 'security scanners') has been rendered impotent by CCleaner!

LoL! Just noticed your sig...

Did YOU ever figure out who No.1 was?

A lot of ppl think it was 'the nuclear missile' in the final episode - but No.1 and No.6 were actually one in the same!

The 'nuke' just symbolized No.6's out-of-control temperament at the last, when he killed everybody in sight - that's all!

The only true imprisonment No.6 endured was the self-limitation of his own mind... as exemplified in your sig.

No.6 was imprisoned by his own piss poor, self-aggrandizing attitude in life - at least that's MY twist, having studied 'The Prisoner' for years.

Heh! I hope you don't hold him in high esteem, as YOUR role model! At most, No.6 was a rather sad and pathetic figure, like most of us...

As an aside, Patrick McGoohan (No.6) had to leave England after the final episode because of all the death threats! (Source)

Anyway, back on topic... ;)

Yep he was no.1 :) He's not a role model but I liked the series and the sig, back on topic I have tried RegCleaner 4.3.0.780 that also seems to work fine in Vista x64 too(make sure you run as Admin).
