Is the mega pixels of a camera really that important?

I'm going from an XTI to a 30d its a $30 upgrade.... Will i regret any thing from the XTI? As far as i see the XTI has a higher mega pixels count then the 30d...

What's the difference - 8 vs. 10? You'll lose a little on cropping possibilities, but 8MP gets you pictures that are 3456x2304, which are pretty big in my book (and will print to very large sizes). IMO, the additional features, including the higher useable ISO, make it worth the $30 upgrade.

Checkout dpreview's review of the 400D, I assume they compare to a 30D.

Honestly, unless you're a pixel peeper, no, and even then it will be very, very small.

At the end of the day, all the current and recent crop of DSLRs will let you take fantastic pictures, and by the same token, all the gizmos in the world won't do anything to prevent you taking awful pictures ;)

For $30 it's a no-brainer. Higher FPS, better AF (I'm assuming), etc. You won't notice any difference between 8mp and 10mp.

the 400D's AF is based upon the 30D's - a German photo magazine tested the 2 & actually put the 400D fractionally ahead but nothing that you would nootice in real life.
