Hey, I am going to be upgrading my computer and I need a good MoBo for my athlon system. I want it to support DDR ram (with DDR prices being the same as PC133, im all for DDR). This will be my first major upgrade and I have read a bunch that a stable motherboard is paramount when you are building a system. So my question is, how is the IWill KK266 in terms of stability? Please dont recomend getting a more expensive board because i found one with raid for $125.00. Also could someone recomend a good video card that is around $100-150.
Thanks for your help
Michael

Put IWill KK266 or KK266R in your search engine and read some of the reviews. Very good board.

Also as a response to dollarbill's comment. I have read about 5 reviews on the mobo, but all of them were when AMD chipsets with support for DDR were just coming out, i think that 2 were with preproduction boards. I just wanted to get some more opinions from people who had them, and used them on a regular basis.
p.s. I'm not trying to crap your post (I guess thats what you'd say? I'm still kinda a newbie on this board) I was just telling you that I did some research too
Thanks,
Mike

The Iwill KK266 is a great mobo but doesn't support DDR SDRAM...just PC133. I think it's the KA266 with the ALI Magic chipset that you need for DDR.

I just installed my KK266-R two days ago and I've had nothing but problems. I read that a lot of people find this mobo to be very stable. Maybe I have the BIOS settings messed up? My system constantly is freezing/crashing for no reason. My USB devices also mess up sometimes. Here's my weirdest problem: whenever I transfer something from my Plextor CDRW drive to my hard drive, the screen turns black and my comp freezes. My old celeron and 440BX was SOO much more stable.

Gargos what OS are you using?

If it is Win2000 chances are your getting the ALL device irq 11 problem. Your BIOS needs adjusting and it will be fine. Give us some more details, maybe we can help you out...

No... it's a damn good mobo. :)

Since the KK266 doesn't support DDR, you might want to check the Epox 8K7A.

When I asked about the board, I was under the impression that there was only one variant, the one that supported DDR ram. The board that I mean is the one with the Ali-whatever chipset. The one that supports DDR ram. If people would like to advise against this, I'm all for hearing why. So if people have opinions on the board based on the Ali chipset w/ DDR ram, please post.
Thanks,
Michael
