Whirlpool Completes Acquisition of Maytag
Whirlpool Corp. completed its acquisition of Maytag Corp. on Friday and said it will immediately begin integrating the two appliance companies.

Maytag stockholders will get about $848 million in cash and about 9.6 million shares of Whirlpool common stock, under the previously signed agreement, which was approved by Maytag shareholders in December.

Maytag, founded in Newton, Iowa, in 1893, officially ceased to exist as a stand-alone company and became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Whirlpool, although the Maytag nameplate will continue to be sold as a Whirlpool brand.

It's just closer to the end of all competition in America.

The "Free Market" Republican pundits are full of sh1t.

Sadly the American Sheeple buy it all, Hook, line and sinker.

I don't understand how the sheeple figure into this one. Should we have rallied congress to block the sale?

Shh.. we don't actually question Dave. We just smile, nod, and wait for that short bus to come pick him up.

The Maytag repair man must have been ignoring all of the broken Maytag washers and dryers over the past few years. I know the Best Buy I worked at stopped carrying them because almost all of the Maytag washers and dryers would get returned within a month.

Wouldn't do any good. Congress is the Republicans.

Guess I'm lucky... my Maytag washer and dryer are going strong at 3 years old.

Then add me to the "standard troll" list. I agree with Dave. More and more acquisitions.

Actually I think the situation is worse. One of the major US appliance companies (I forget which one) is in the process of being sold to the Chinese.

My Maytag washer caught fire earlier this year. Sure hope they infuse a bit of engineering into their newer line of products. Only had it six months when it happened. Turned out the main bearing was defective and it got so hot the heat given off caused the main seal the burn. One good thing out of it, it was free repair and they sent out a gift certificate. I'd probably buy from them again, even if Whirlpool owns them now. But that shouldn't be necessary, right?
